The Pretoria student residence built in 1925, has been restored and the original handmade external terrazzo tiles from Union Tiles, installed over 96 years ago rejuvenated that were tiled over with ceramic tiles some years later.
The HPA Heritage Architect Helene, specified that Union Tiles floor rejuvenation team first uplift a sample panel and then after seeing the amazing result, then instructed us to complete the task of rejuvenating over 100m2 of this beautiful handmade tile, which had approximately 10mm of tile adhesive covering the tiles.
Tiles were cleaned and sealed after grinding and polishing, revealing a truly awesome and remarkable terrazzo floor.

Sandstone tiles in a 600×600 format had developed a build-up of black water run marks down the walls and the floor surface had also become dirty, discoloured and lacked its original bright sandstone colours.
Union Tiles floor rejuvenation team was called to the private residence and after undertaking a specially developed grinding technique sample, were asked to undertake the unique floor polishing process to reinstate a brand new wearing layer throughout and bring back the vivid colours of the sandstone.
Tiles were sealed after grinding.

Senior specialist HPA Heritage Architects, Helene, requested us under main contractor Radon to rejuvenate both staircase units in the building by undertaking our unique textured grinding process.
Our unique grinding technique preserved the non-slip original finish of the terrazzo steps and made them look brand new.
The area was cleaned and sealed after grinding. The Pretoria based HPA Heritage Architect, Helena and main contractor Radon Construction were extremely satisfied with the end result.
